Mount Dickerman - August 18, 2017

On Top - Mount Dickerman (August 18, 2017)
On Friday, Craig, Donald, Robin and I walked the 4.1 miles (8.2 round trip) to the top of Mount Dickerman. The weather was sunny and pleasantly warm. We didn't rush it; many stops were taken on the way up. Keeping a moderate "talking" pace is preferred when hiking with friends.

Chicken of the Woods - Mount Dickerman Hike
While climbing and descending, stories were told and many topics discussed. I particularly enjoyed hearing about Donald's encounter with a grizzly in the backcountry of Montana. Craig showed toughness in his perseverance (his foot is still quite inflexible after his fall from the painting ladder). Robin brought a small pad to sit on, which also gave rigidity to his day pack. Why didn't I think of that?

On the top, we met a woman who was the distant relative of Alton L. Dickerman, the mining engineer who inspected the North Cascades for John D. Rockefeller and was honored with the peak's name (Mount Dickerman). Unique encounters are just a step out the front door. A local Seattleite took time away from shepherding her two whippets to snap several group pictures of us.

Stiff (Pre Group Shot) - Mount Dickerman Peak
Before catching the ferry back to Whidbey, we stopped at the Mukilteo Lodge for food, drinks and a Seahawk preseason game versus the Vikings. The Hawks look great here at the beginning. I'd like to try one more day hike before school starts...
